So, you have an idea? Whether that means fixing one room or renovating your entire home, you’ve decided to work with a professional. We want to help you understand what you’re taking on, so here is the process you can expect to ensure a long lasting, positive relationship. Before we meet, start dreaming. Find photos of rooms, colors, fabrics, and materials that you love and start an inspiration file to share with us.
Meeting and Programming
Think of our first meeting like you would a first date, except we’re going to get to know all about your house (and each other). We’ll measure rooms and ask questions like, “How do you use this space?” During this visit, we’ll determine how big your project is, also known as scope of work and we’ll look at the photos you’ve been collecting to determine your style and vision. We will discuss scope, budget, timeline, and style. If needed, we will meet with your architect, and any other consultants involved, before beginning the next phase – Design Development.
Vision and Design Development
It’s now up to us to interpret your vision as part of the design development. When we present it you’ll know we, “get you”. But this is also when any changes can be discussed and considered. We may need to go back to the drawing board to finesse your vision by incorporating changes.
We develop new space plans, furniture plans, and color palettes, as well as select your new interior finishes such as paint, wallcovering, flooring, ceiling and window treatments, moldings, cabinetry and countertops. This is also the phase when any custom-designed pieces or treatments would be sketched for your review.
After we finish sourcing your job we meet with you to review the plans and finish selections and make any refinements needed.
Details and Documentation
With the scope of work determined, and the design development clarified, we then generate technical drawings. These drawings clarify your vision precisely and will be essential throughout the process to the contractor, trades and you.
After you receive several contractor bids and their proposed timelines, we assist you in reviewing each to ensure accuracy and fair pricing.
We also draft and submit purchase orders for all of your equipment, interior finishes, and furnishings so items are received and ready to install before construction begins.
Construction and Installation
We’re getting more familiar with your house and it’s time to get down to the nuts and bolts. This phase is filled with excitement, surprises, and a few “omgs”.
Designers love the Construction Phase! We get to see our ideas come to life and your happiness. We stop by the job site weekly to ensure work is progressing as planned and installations are successful. We meet with you to address any of your concerns.
Following construction, we coordinate the delivery and installation of your new furnishings, accessories and artwork.
Before we conclude our time together, we do a final walk-through with you and prepare a list of any remaining small items needing attention. We also discuss the care and maintenance of all your new finishes, furnishings and equipment so you can enjoy them for many years and maintain their new appearance. Then we might hug or have a glass of wine on that new sofa of yours!
*Please note not all of these activities will pertain to your job as defined by its scope of work.
